Microfit Contract Assignment Form

Currently, microFIT Contract holders can initiate a Contract Assignment request through their “My microFIT Home Page”. As part of the Assignment process, Assignees are required to provide the following information on the Assignee Form B:

  • Assignee’s contact information (telephone number, email address, mailing address)
  • Representative’s contact information (if applicable)
  • Generator account information
  • Proof of eligibility (if applicable)
  • E.g. - parcel register for individuals

In April 2017, the IESO will be implementing a change to the Contract Assignment process with the introduction of the Prescribed Form: Assignee’s Declaration. Assignees will be required to complete and upload a commissioned Assignee’s Declaration as part of the Assignee Form B.

The Assignee’s Declaration and the updated microFIT Contract Assignment Instructions can be viewed at the links provided below. Once the change has been implemented, the Assignee Declaration and the updated Assignment Instructions will be posted on the Program Documents webpage under the applicable version.

This is the applicant's true and legal name, not a nickname, or any other name. This will be the name that appears on the microFIT contract. If the applicant is an individual, use the name that appears on the applicant's driver's licence, passport or birth certificate. If the applicant is a business, use the name that appears on the articles of incorporation.

The name of your microFIT project may be used for reporting purposes. It also may be used for your own tracking purposes.

Enter the contact information of the applicant. This is needed for identification and communication purposes.

This section is optional. Examples of secondary contacts include spouse, installer, other project partner, etc.

Select the option that bests describes the applicant. For example, if the applicant is installing a project on his or her own home, the applicant is a homeowner. If the applicant is a small business, the applicant should select the commercial category. If the applicant is installing a project on a school, municipal building, hospital, university/college, institution should be selected. If the applicant is installing the project as part of a community project or cooperative, select community-owned. If the applicant identifies as First Nations or Mètis, choose Aboriginal. If none of these options sufficiently describes the applicant, please select Other and provide a description. This information is being collected for reporting purposes only.

Provided is a sample of a typical PIN number: 61360-0169 (LT). This information may be found on the Transfer/Deed of Land, or on your mortgage documentation. You can also obtain this information through your land registry office

Income from the microFIT project may be considered business income and the applicant therefore may be required to collect and remit goods and services tax (GST). For more information about the GST, please consult a tax expert or visit Canada Revenue Agency.

This is the Local Distribution Company that will be connecting the microFIT project, e.g., Hydro One, Toronto Hydro, etc.

The net-metering program offers participants credits for electricity sent to the grid. This program is run by local distribution companies.

This is the date that the net-metered project was connected to the grid.

Does the existing facility have a Renewable Energy Standard Offer Program (RESOP) contract or a microFIT contract? Projects with exisiting IESO contracts are not eligible for a microFIT contract.

The LDC account information for the existing load customer refers to the account information found on your electricity bill as it relates to the electricity consumed by your home, business or institution. Note: You will be required to set up a new Generator Account for your renewable energy project by your Local Distribution Company.

Biogas means a gaseous fuel or product made solely from renewable biomass. It includes gaseous output from anaerobic digestion of source-separated organics, livestock manure, energy crops, livestock feed ingredients, food and feed processing by-products, off-specification food and feed materials and organic by-products from biofuel production.

Landfill gas is the gas emitted from a landfill that is captured to generate electricity.

Renewable biomass refers to the organic matter derived from dedicated energy crops, dedicated trees, agricultural food and feed crops and waste organic material from harvesting or processing agricultural products, forestry products. Several exceptions apply; please see the definitions set out in the microFIT Rules for more details.

Solar photovoltaic (PV) refers to solar panels that are used to convert solar energy into electricity.

Power generated by naturally flowing water.

Wind energy refers to the moving air that is captured and converted into electricity.

Nameplate capacity (in kW) refers to the electricity output of the generating equipment as defined by the manufacturer.

A connection request is an application that is submited to the Local Distribution Company to get the microFIT project connected to the electricity grid. This is the estimated date for the applicant to submit the connection request to the applicant's Local Distribution Company.

An incremental project is an additional to, or expansion of, an existing renewable generating facility.

The existing facility must be at the same location as the incremental project.

The applicant of the incremental project must be the owner (or operator) of the existing facility.

The incremental project must use the same renewable fuel as the existing generating facility.

The sum of the nameplate capacity of the existing facility and the incremental project must not be greater than 10 kW.

This is the estimated or actual date that the existing renewable generating facility was connected to the grid.

If the existing facility has a contract with the IESO, for example, through the Renewable Energy Standard Offer Program (RESOP), provide the RESOP contract number here.

Other grants, government loans or funding may include the federal government's ecoENERGY for renewable power program and the retail sales tax exemption on renewable energy systems.

Briefly describe the dollar amount, funder, funding partners (if applicable) and the date that the funding was received.

Battery backup systems are not permitted for microFIT projects that are connected directly to the grid. If the applicant will install a battery backup system, it must meet the IESO's configuration requirements.

Provide a brief description of the project. For example, the name of the equipment manufacturer, inverter specifications and the names of your installer/equipment suppliers, etc.

These are the microFIT Contracts which are available to be assigned.

This is the date that you want the microFIT Contract Assignment Agreement to come into effect. For example, if you are selling your house to the Assignee, you may want the Effective Date of the Assignment to be the date that the real estate transaction closes. The Effective Date of the microFIT Contract will be the later of (i) the Proposed Effective Date you have provided and (ii) the date the IESO consents to the Assignment.

You are the Assignor, the individual or corporation that is assigning a microFIT Contract. The Assignee is the individual or corporation that you are assigning the microFIT Contract to. Note: the Assignee must set up a microFIT Registration ID, and provide this to the Assignor, before this step can be completed.

This is the Assignee's (new proposed Supplier) legal name used during the registration of the Assignee's Registration ID. The Assignee's legal name entered during registration can be found in the Assignee's My microFIT Home Page under 'My Profile'.

Please provide a brief description about why you wish to assign your microFIT Contract. For example, moving, death, etc.

A Generator Account is a new account which the Assignee will need to set-up with their Local Distribution Company that is associated with the microFIT Contract.
